Roy Gover / Radio Presenter
Roy Gover shows
Roy is no stranger to radio having spent ten years with Colchester Hospital Radio. Having moved back to Bookham, Colchester’s loss is SHCR’s gain as Roy brings to his show eight decades of rock music in all its permutations.
Should Roy appear on Mastermind his specialist subject would be British bands from 1968 to 1978 and when it comes to musical influences Roy would admit to John Peel and Whispering Bob Harris. Although were he to have a studio guest it would be Danny Baker for his wit and endless supply of rock ‘n roll stories.
Another life-changing musical influence was his involvement with the legendary Gin Mill Club in Godalming in the late sixties / early seventies – famous for showcasing the best bands on the British blues scene. Roy also collaborated with legendary Knebworth Festivals promoter Freddie Bannister’s autobiography
Despite having been going to gigs for well over fifty years his favourite concert was having local rock band Voodoo Goats play at his 75th birthday party. Pity it was not the late Stevie Ray Vaughan as the New York concert was one that got away from Roy. Stranger still, Roy’s guilty pleasure is occasionally enjoying Easy Listening music from the 1960s – an indelible DNA legacy from his parents.
Away from music Roy’s other interests include 1960s motorbikes, classic cars and Queens Park Rangers FC. And should life ever get too much for him and he can’t revisit the Seychelles, Roy can hide away on his old river cruiser where he can catch up on his favourite TV show “The Fast Show” or the film classic “The Long Good Friday.” And the name of this boat? “Muddy Waters” after the hugely influential bluesman.
