Rich James / Radio Presenter / Web Content Creator
Rich James has no history of involvement with radio even when at Keele University possibly because he was too busy studying History & International Politics.
Nevertheless he arrived at the studio via the Mole Valley Employment & Skills Hub and after a quick chat and a look round the studio he found himself lined up with his show cleverly titled “The Music Carousel” where he can indulge his passion for Hip Hop, Indie, Drum & Base and pretty much everything and anything in between. And if he could turn back time, he would invite the Notorious B.I.G into the studio to talk about his rapping and how he got caught up in the East Coast/West Coast rapping feud that ultimately led to his murder.
Rich’s wide range of musical delights has been initially influenced by his parents’ collection of Tamla, Soul and 60s and 70s music. Rich is also keen on live performances and Pete Doherty and Babyshambles were a standout together with two years working at Glastonbury which in 2005 featured Coldplay and The Killers and 2008 included Jay-Z and Groove Armada. Stories he could tell – but won’t! He says you just have to be there.
Rich’s other passion is sport. He is a keen follower of Arsenal which he claims was borne out of the pain of seeing the cup holders Arsenal lose the 1995 Cup Winners Cup final to Zaragoza when David Seaman was lobbed from forty yards out in the last minutes of extra time. But Rich is also a supporter of the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers because his dad used to work in the steel industry. Asia, Australia and New Zealand are always popular holiday destinations for SHCR presenters and Rich is no exception.
