Phil Wessell
Meet Phil, the technical maestro behind the scenes at Surrey Hills Community Radio. With a profound understanding of cables, computers, and construction, there’s hardly a technical challenge he can’t conquer. Phil’s journey began with him building the entire radio station system from scratch, a testament to his technical prowess. His ability to troubleshoot and resolve any issue in the studio is nothing short of legendary.
Outside of the studio, Phil is a man of diverse interests. He’s the founding member of the SHCR Rick Astley Appreciation club, having dragged his friends to see the star in over ten venues. His DIY skills are equally impressive, and he’s known for his knack for fixing and building things. If he hadn’t pursued a career in computers, he might have been constructing bicycles, a passion he recently explored by completing his CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) – perhaps hinting at future two-wheeled adventures.
Phil’s love for travel has taken him across much of the United States, Thailand and Europe reflecting his curiosity and adventurous spirit. His latest adventure was a spur-of-the-moment 5-day road trip to Dussledorf with unplanned stops along the way.
In addition to his many talents and interests, Phil is currently knee-deep in a house renovation project. As a true handyman, he’s taking on the challenge head-on, but admits that a few tools might have mysteriously disappeared under the floorboards during the process. His determination to conquer any DIY endeavour extends beyond the radio station and into his own home.
In a remarkable twist, Phil might just be the only person who has ventured into the depths of the basement at Surrey Hills Community Radio. His willingness to explore every nook and cranny of the station, including the basement, exemplifies his dedication to understanding and maintaining every aspect of the technical infrastructure.
With his technical expertise, DIY prowess, and love for music, Phil is an invaluable asset to Surrey Hills Community Radio, ensuring smooth operations and top-notch broadcasts for our listeners.
