To say that Mike is enthusiastic about music would be a massive understatement. His collection of over 1000 cds and about 300 albums accumulated over 5 decades bears witness to it. His collection includes blues, R&B, folk, rock n roll, rock music, American country/Americana as well as some classical music and reggae thrown into the mix it is no surprise that his monthly show is called “50 Shades Of Rock”.

Mike joined the station in July 2018 and his first show aired in August 2018. In the 1980s, Mike volunteered with the hospital radio at Croydon’s Mayday Hospital where his role was to visit the wards talking to the patients and collecting requests. He had started training to be a presenter but he did not like the sound of his voice on a demo tape.

Over the past 50 years Mike has been a regular concert goer be it the back room of a pub or a large stadium. His first ever significant concert was Simon & Garfunkel promoting “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and the most recent before Covid struck was probably the American southern rockers band “The Drive By Truckers.”

Having retired from Reuters where he worked as an international tax director Mike spends his time volunteering with Surrey Wildlife Trust and Surrey Archaeological Society where he is also Treasurer. He is also learning to play the keyboard at the Kingston Music Centre and can often be found in his man cave at home working through his beginners Jazz/Rock book.
