DJ JC / Presenter

DJ JC shows

DJ JC co- hosts this show with the enigmatic Lady Red and this is a feel good show designed to put a smile on your face. Although he will play music of any kind, living in Battersea meant his early influences began with Ska which he listened with the Rastas while they played dominoes at the Patmore Club.

Top of his list of guests into the studio would be the Jamaican singer and songwriter Alton Ellis often referred to as the godfather of Rocksteady for being not just a wonderful musician but a warm and generous human being who left DJ JC with the lasting memory of a fiery Jamaican patty that blew his head off! But following on from Anton Ellis would be Etta James and Louis Armstrong.  It goes without saying that his big regret is not seeing Bob Marley live in concert.

Links to radio go back to the 80s living in London’s East End and being loosely involved on the fringes of the pirate radio stations playing rave music. But DJ JC’s route into Surrey Hills Community Radio came (as it often does with SHCR presenters!) through a chance meeting in Leatherhead’s Running Horse pub.

In his younger days he took up the drums which he found a wonderful therapeutic means of working through all the thoughts spinning around in his head. DJ JC also draws a lot of inspiration from his favourite film “The Wizard Of Oz” which reminds you that despite life’s knockbacks it is possible to find your own version of the pot of gold.

In addition to music, hobbies include walking in the New Forest with Lady Red and visiting stately homes. But a dream holiday would be a tour of Jamaica for the music and those head busting patties!
