Supporting Dementia at Surrey Hills Community Radio

Dementia can happen to anyone and there’s currently no cure. There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and the number is set to rise to 1 million by 2015.

MSDCT logoThe Mid Surrey Dementia Care Trust, Conservatory Club is a registered charitable trust, in the heart of Leatherhead. It is financed by donations from members of the public, local clubs, organisations, trusts and contributions from members.

The Club has two main aims:
• To help people with memory difficulties to retain their communication and social skills
• To provide relief to carers from the demanding responsibilities of caring

They work closely with the Outreach Service of the Alzheimer’s Society, which help them assess those with memory difficulties to ensure that they will benefit from the Club.
The Society also provides support to carers and families.

The Club Manager, supported by at least one volunteer each day, helps members to take part in activities that they all find interesting and pleasurable, in an inviting and happy environment.
This is done by treating each person with respect and dignity and addressing, where possible, their individual needs.
