Poetry and Playwriting with Tony Earnshaw

By Imogen Bole
Sundays, 12noon – 2pm

This Sunday, after some Sunday afternoon lethargy from our system, we got off to a great start, jumping straight in with our guest, Tony Earnshaw, who is a member of the Mole Valley Poets and a rather talented playwright.

Tony gave us an introduction into what the Mole Valley Poets do and how they work – I mean, of course they write poetry, but how do they write poetry? That is the question. We spoke about what specifically happens in their meetings and how they help and assist one another to become better poets. Tony also gave me a copy of the MVP’s fantastic anthology, ‘Surrey Unearthed’.

We then moved on to speak more generally about the writing process and how you find your muse, how you overcome poet’s block and how different people approach writing poetry.

Regarding upcoming events, we mentioned the Mole Valley Poets’ Sofa Poet workshops and their Poetry Pub sessions (find details below), as well as talking about Tony’s own solo, theatrical venture with Sex is Another Language. Tony told us all about how the project first came to fruition, the journey it’s taken him on, and the difference between writing poetry and script-writing – a very multi-talented man, I think we should say! – Download the flyer here

Find out about his play’s upcoming run at The Stepping Stones in Dorking and The Claremont Project in London here: Sex is Another Language
