Match report Godalming Town FC vs East Grinstead FC

Match played: Saturday 5 November 2016
Full time: Godalming 2-3 East Grinstead

Dean Thomas and his men went into today’s match after a 2-2 draw last week away at Molesey, The G’s knew that East Grinstead were to be an unpredictable team and so they were right!

The G’s faced a frustrating defeat to the wasps as East Grinstead took home all 3 points, it was on the 4th minute that Centre half Chris Atkins came off injured, replaced by No.15 Graeme Purdy.

Five minutes later the first bit of action of the game happened when Laste Dombaxe tested goalkeeper Oneal Garnes with a curling short just outside the box.

The deadlock was broken on the 18th minute and it was East Grinstead striker Michael Salako buried the ball in from close range after Godalming Towm No.1 Oneal garnes parried a shot, the keeper could not prevent the striker from tapping home to put the Wasps ahead.

A minute later the G’s could’ve and should have equalised when a curling ball was whipped in by skipper, Darren Wheeler, Matthew males then managed to find space in the box for a shot but the ball was hoofed off of the line by East grinstead defender, Jake Mcintyre.

It was that man Dombaxe who threatened the Godalming keeper, this time his powerful volley was well saved by Garnes.

Ex Farnborough midfielder Jack Battie had a great opportunity to draw level on the 26th minute when he found space just outside the box, the debutant just pulled his shot wide of Chris Haigh’s touchline.

Nine minutes later and East Grinstead were dominataing the game again this time it was Will Thomas who had a long range shot saved well by the very busy Godalming keeper.

Another long shot minutes later, this time by Godalming midfielder, Hitcham Abdellah, didn’t have enough power behind it and the keeper saved comfortably.

Half time: Godalming 0-1 East Grinstead

The Wasps doubled there leads only 8 minutes into the 2nd half, the G’s were out done again defensiveley and again it was the ever present East Grinstead player, Laste Dombaxe who scored, this time it was a long powerful shot which Oneal Garnes failed to Deal with!

It was to be Godalming who would hit back on the 59th minute, and my MOTM scored it, Chris wales made a long run into the box and converted Darren wheelers low cross!

The G’s morale was stabbed again when east grinstead took the lead for the 2nd time today, it was Noel Mbo who somehow bundled the ball over the line, East Grinstead originally had a corner and the result ended up hitting the post and then pushed over the line by Mbo (6th minute).

Kyle Bailey was cautioned after bringing down Michael Salako just outside the box, Salako took the resulting free kick, his testing shot forced Godalming’s number one into a fine save to Parry over the bar.

And then there was late drama…

As Godalming entered the final 10 minutes of the game, it was Zidanya who replaced new boy Jack Pattie, only 50 seconds later and Zidanya had written his name on the score sheet!  The young midfielder smashed the ball home after great work by wheeler.

A tense 5 minutes it was to be as Godalming were awarded a number of corners which they were unable to convert from!
